Winston Academy was scheduled to get its 2018 baseball season under way with four games this week, weather permitting.
The Patriots, under the direction of second-year head coach Todd Allen, were slated to go to Central Holmes on Tuesday and will visit Kirk Academy in Grenada on Thursday.
The 2018 high school softball season for fast-pitch teams will get under way Friday, when Nanih Waiya, Louisville and Noxapater take part in the round-robin Winston County Classic.
This year’s tournament will be hosted by Noxapater.
On one hand, Tyler Rogers lost his top two pitchers and a trio of players who had been stalwarts in his program.
On the other hand, there doesn’t figure to be too many folks feeling sorry for the veteran Nanih Waiya baseball coach as he heads into a new season.

Nanih Waiya’s boys overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half, erupting for 27 points in the fourth quarter to knock off Vardaman 54-52 in the Region 6-1A consolation game last Friday night at West Lowndes.
